Website Basics of Domain and Hosting Services

If you know about the current website affairs, then you should know that the website creation and ecommerce site were growing so rapidly. Many people depend on websites as their only income source to run their house. And on the other hand the big ecommerce companies gains profit from their sales by their websites.

For the teenagers the best start to earn money or explore their writing skills is by blogging. Blogging is the way by which you would spread your words and knowledge throughout the world. It can also fruitful as an income source. Though this is not that easy to earn money in the initial periods of blogging or any website you create. But day by day if you work real hard and peoples started to like your website then there is a good chance to income good sum of money through blogging.

What is Hosting?

Hosting can be hard to understand, especially if you’re not a web pro and just want the fastest, easiest way to get your business online. Put simply, hosting is space you rent on a server that’s connected to the web. It’s what makes your site available around the world. Without a hosting plan, no one can see your site because it’s just sitting on your computer like all your other files.

Hosting is basically a Computer that’s left on 24 Hours a day, 7 days a week with your website loaded on it. This is how people can gain access to your website even when your computer is switched off. It is a service by which you rent some space from the company as like a land and created your website on that space as like a home. So, you have to pay rent for that amount of space.

The next question is generally “What type of hosting do I need?” This depends a lot on your website – how many visitors you have (or want to have), what type of content you’re hosting, even how your site was built.

Hosting is something you do require if you going to run a website. Hosting service costs usually vary from $2 - $9 per month.

Some famous hosting service providers are:   GoDaddy, Hostgator, Bigrock, Namecheap etc.

For convenience we are using Godaddy as our Hosting service provider example.

Buying a suitable Hosting service from Godaddy

  • Type www.godaddy.com in the address bar and press Enter.

  • From their Home page you can find the latest attractive plans.

hosting and ssl

  • Click on Hosting and SSL from the top menu bar.

  • Then in Hosting you have two options of Web Hosting and WordPress hosting:

-           WordPress Hosting/Blog: Perfect for bloggers, designers, developers and companies who work with agencies. Built from the ground up to maximize the performance of WordPress sites and blogs, this hosting plan automates many of the time-consuming tasks so you have more time to design your site and keep it fresh. (Though you can also install WordPress or Migrate WordPress manually)

-           Web Hosting: Perfect for most individuals and small businesses. Several sites live together on a single server, each one with its own private space. Since most sites only require a tiny fraction of a server’s resources at any given moment, dozens – sometimes hundreds – of sites can successfully share the ‘utilities’ on a single server.

  • We choose the general Web hosting option for example which also support your blog and WordPress installation. The difference is that the WordPress hosting is carved for WordPress only which gives more speed and reliability.

  • Compare the plans by clicking on the Compare plans button

Plans.        * The plans may vary due to the official website plans and price up-gradation.

  • GoDaddy offers four plans which are:

  • Starter

  • Economy

  • Deluxe

  • Ultimate

  • Compare the plans and choose the best among them which suit you and also comes within you budget. (If you are a beginner blogger or want to open a basic text and image based website then I recommended to go with the starter pack or any plans which is low cost, as in general the low cost plans offers basic amount regarding Disk space, Bandwidth, domain registration etc which is quite appropriate if you are starting a blog.)

Starter plan

  • So took Starter plan as example and now select the length of time you want to buy the hosting service.

  • Choose the term of your plan and click Add to Cart.

  • Then on the next page there were options for website security which are important only when your website gain some age and also gain many viewers across the globe. (All the plans, terms and everything are upgradable.)

  • Leave the security for now if you are budget conscious or you can add them to your cart by checking them.

  • Click on

  • They forwarded you to a new webpage where you can review your order.

proceed to checkout

  • Click on Proceed to checkout after reviewing all the aspects.

  • Sign up and register yourself with a new account.

  • Fill up all the information along with the billing address.

  • Choose the mode of payment and Click Continue.

  • Pay the amount with any suitable mode of payment.

  • That’s all and within minutes you get an email with all the information and they also redirect you to the hosting management page. (You can also buy the Domain along the hosting service during reviewing your order, you have to scroll down and you have the option to search your domain name.)

What is a server?

Basically, it’s a large, powerful computer that’s connected to a network so it can ‘serve’ files, such as web pages, to multiple users at once. When selecting a server, there are a lot of options to choose from, even within a single plan. Here’s a quick snapshot of our products to help you get up to speed.

Dedicated Server: Just as its name implies, our Dedicated Servers give you an entire server to yourself to set up and manage however you see fit.

Your very own single-tenant virtual machine. Linux and Windows distributions to meet any of the performance demands you can throw at it.

  • Perfect for high-traffic or resource-intensive sites that need complete control.

Dedicated IP: More of an add-on for smaller hosting plans, a Dedicated IP is exactly as it sounds: An IP address that’s exclusive to you. Like a dedicated server, the name says it all. While most sites share their server’s IP address, a Dedicated IP is 100% yours and yours alone. If you need to access your domain name when it might not otherwise be available, like during domain propagation periods, a Dedicated IP is the simplest, most affordable solution.

  • Perfect for anyone who needs access to their site, even during DNS propagation periods.

Managed VPS (Virtual Private Server): A great option for budget-minded businesses. Similar to a Dedicated Server in power and flexibility, but with a little less control and a lower price tag. A server with the resources and hosting plans that scale. You have all of the performance, Linux and Windows distributions, and the flexibility of a Dedicated server.

  • Perfect for high-traffic sites, developers and creative agencies

What is a Domain name?

Domain name is simply a specific address among the millions of address which all the running websites have. By this Domain name or say specific address, you can find the required website which you searched. A domain name is basically the title of a website with www before it and .com after it (though it vary). Once again a domain name is something you do require if you are going to run a website. Domain name costs vary $2-$13 per year.

Try to keep the Domain name small, easy and understandable.

Some famous Domain name providers are: GoDaddy, Hostgator, Bigrock, Namecheap etc.

Buying a perfect Domain Name from Godaddy

  • Type www.godaddy.com in the address bar and press Enter.

  • From their Home page you can find the latest attractive plans.

  • Click on Domains from the top menu bar or alternatively you can search the domain name you want in the Domain name search box at the top.domain name search

  • Domain name searching is a hectic process and if you do not have unique domain names in your mind, then first think about a unique name and the search. (Don’t make it to complex or meaningless. Try to keep it short and easy)

extensions

  • After founding the perfect domain name. Choose the suitable extension which suits your website and Click Continue to cart.

  • Leave the business registration and other offer as NO if you wouldn’t need them at the moment. (All the plans, terms and everything are upgradable.)

  • Leave the extra features for now if you are budget conscious or you can add them to your cart by selecting them.

  • Click on Continue.

  • They forwarded you to a new webpage where you can review your order.

  • Click on Proceed to checkout after reviewing all the aspects.

  • Sign up and register yourself with a new account.

  • Fill up all the information along with the billing address.

  • Choose the mode of payment and Click Continue.

  • Pay the amount with any suitable mode of payment.

  • That’s all and within minutes you get an email with all the information and they also redirect you to the Domain name management page.

How to move from offline to online WordPress

Move from Offline to Online WordPress

What is WordPress?

WordPress is web software you can use to create a beautiful website or blog. We like to say that WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.

WordPress is the most recommended way of blogging (we are talking about the self-hosted version) as it is free and also easy to use. We can download several plugins and themes on it to customise our site

In our previous post, we learn the process to setup a database for WordPress and also learn to install it in the WampServer which helps to create your blog without having any Internet connection.

But now if your blog is ready to publish and posts are also updated, then you need this article to migrate your whole offline WordPress setup to a new online environment.

And for that you have to follow certain steps which are covered in this article. By using this process, you would be able to migrate all of your content (posts, pages, images, etc.), themes, as well as plugins from local server to a newly created website.

This articles also explore the steps to setup your website with a self-hosted platform and domain.

To make this moving process is easier you can also use two useful plugins:

  • BackupBuddy

  • Duplicator

In this article we will show you the process of moving your WordPress from offline local server to a online live site manually.

Assumptions

  1. You have WordPress setup with a database installed on your local server such as WampServer. (If not then click on our previous post links to learn that)

  2. You have full access to that such as the Username, Password etc.

  3. You have your hosting service and Domain name which you own. (For more information in Hosting, Domain setup- )

Step 1. – Exporting the local WordPress database

Now you need to export your local WordPress database.WampServer features the phpMyAdmin function ability. We will be using phpMyAdmin to do that. PhpMyAdmin is a web development application which manage MySQL databases.

  • If your WampServer is not running, then launch it by double clicking on the Desktop shortcut for WampServer

You can find out the launching process by peeking at your quick launch icons.

Launched

php

  • Now left click on the WampServer green icon, which is on the taskbar or it may be on your quick launch window.

  • Then click on phpMyAdmin. A new offline page will be opened on you default browser.

Or

Go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/

Databases

  • Click on your WordPress database.

Export

  • Click on the Export button from the top menu bar.

  • Click on Custom – display all possible options. (It will provide you more options to Export your database)

  • Select the WordPress database or just select all if you wouldn’t create any other databases.

gzipped compression

  • Select gzipped in the compression segment under Output.

  • Leave all the other options as they are.

go

  • Click on Go.

  • A Zip file of the database will be created and ready to be download.

  • Download the file on your desktop. (These file is used during the Step 6. below)

Step 2. - Uploading local WordPress files to the self-hosted site via FTP client

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a fast and simple way to transfer the local files from one computer to another computer or say Server over the internet. In simple words, it is the way by which you send your files from your computer to your web hosting server.

Here are some FTP clients, which you can download and install on your computer to upload the local WordPress files to your server.

  • WinSCP (Windows Only)

  • Cyberduck (Mac Only)

  • FireFTP (All Platform)

  • Filezilla (All Platform)

  • Install the FTP client software in your computer.

  • Connect with the server by providing their host name and username and password.

upload

  • After connection takes place, upload the files to the right directory.

Generally it will be the public_html directory on your live site where you upload all the local WordPress files. (In case of WampServer the files will needed to be stored on www folder inside the wamp directory.)

  1. Now select your local WordPress files and upload them to your live server.

Step 3. -Create MySQL database to you self-hosted live server using cPanel

Most hosting service providers features cPanel with their service which is acts as the main tool for managing your web database.

MySQL database

  • Login to your cPanel and click on MySQL Databases in the Databases section.

create database

  • Create a new database with a name.

  • Then Scroll down to MySQL Users section and create or add an existing user to the database. After adding the user, cPanel will take you to set MySQL privileges for that user.

  • Grant all privileges to the user.

Step 4. – Importing your WordPress database to your self-hosted site

Now, the database which contains all the information and data which you created in your offline WordPress.

  • Get back to your cPanel Main.

phpMyAdmin

  • Click on phpMyAdmin under the Database section. This will take you to phpMyAdmin page.

Databases

  • Click on the Database in the top menu.

  • Click on the database which you created earlier from the list.

import database

  • Click on the import button in the top menu.

  • Click on Browse button and select the gzipped file which was downloaded earlier during the Step 1.

  • Press the Go button at the bottom of the page. phpMyadmin will now import your offline WordPress database with all its data and contents.

Step 5. – Correcting your website URL

Now, as your website was setup on an offline server earlier, the URL for that also used to be for a offline site. So you have to change that URL into your new domain name which you brought earlier to setup your live WordPress site.

  • Get back to the phpMyAdmin database and select the database for WordPress.

wp Option

  • Now, in your phpMyAdmin, look for the wp_options table in your database. (If you changed your database prefix, then instead of wp_options it might be {prefix} _options)

  • Click on the Browse button on the side bar and it will redirects you to the files inside it.

siteURL

  • Select the Edit option for the siteurl file under wp_options table. An edit field window will appear.

  • Now, look for the input box for option_value, you will see the URL of your local server installation, probably something like: http://localhost/wordpress.

option value

Carefully insert your new site url in this field, for example: http://www.demodifier.com

  • Save the new URL by clicking Go button.

  • Get back to the files stored under wp_options.

home option

  • Search for home option or file. (Usually it is on the second page which you can navigate to by clicking on the pagination arrows in phpMyAdmin)

  • Update the home url to be the same as your siteurl. (Replicate the steps use for siteurl option)

Step 6. - Merging of live WordPress database with the User database

Now we have to configure wordpress and merge all of our content with the wordpress database. To do this you have to edit the wp_config.php file either from the cPanel File manager section under the Files menu or by using a FTP client.

As the process to connect with FTP client and uploading files were already shown in Step 2., that’s why we are showing the alternate method.

Editing wp_config.php file from the cPanel File manager section under the Files menu

  • Go to cPanel- Main

files

  • Click on File manager under Files section.

public_html

  • Navigate to the public_html directory.

  • Right click on wp_config.php file and from the option popup, click edit. (It will redirects you to the code editing page)

  • Edit the followings:

  • /** The name of the database for WordPress */

define('DB_NAME', ‘__________’);

  • /** MySQL database username */

define('DB_USER',’ __________ ’);

  • /** MySQL database password */

define('DB_PASSWORD', '________');

Provide the database name, user and password you created earlier in Step 3. Save the wp-config.php file and upload it back to your server. Visit your website, and it should be live now.

Save

  • Now log into your WordPress admin panel normally or by this web address:

http://www.mysite.com/wp-admin/options-general.php (change the domain name to your own domain name)

  • Go to settings and click on General. Scroll down and click on save. (This will automatically corrected the site url everywhere it needs to be)

  • Go to settings and Click on Permalinks. Scroll down and click on save. (This will automatically corrected all the post links everywhere it needs to be)

Step 7. - Updating path links to fix the images and broken links

During website migration or whenever you are moving a WordPress site from one domain to another domain, or from local server to a live server, you would face problems with broken links and missing images.

This process can be completed by two methods:

  • By using WordPress plugin: Velvet Blues WordPress plugin.

  • By using a simple SQL query.

The steps for SQL query method:

  • Go to phpMyAdmin from cPanel.

Databases

  • Click on Databases from top menu and click on your database.

Sql window

sql query code

  • Click on SQL from the top menu. Write this query in the input box and click Go (Don’t forget to change it with your own local site and live website URLs)

So, the process is completed J

Hopefully we are able to make your work done and your site will be up and running by now. Surf your site and test all the links and images to ensure that everything is running well and fine as expected.

Still if you have any problem, Questions or troubleshooting then feel free to ask below in the comment section and we will be happy if we can help.

How to make a Clap switch

November 12, 2014 Posted by WithU Technologies

2 Ways to make a Clap switch

Imagine how cool it would be if every electronic gadgets can be operated with your clap only. Now You can do that with your own hand.

Here we gives you a very interesting circuit of clap switch. With the help of this circuit you can turn ON and OFF any circuit just by clapping.

1. Clap switch with transistors, diodes and resistance

In this circuit, transistor Q2 and Q3 are wired in monostable mode. Transistor Q4 is the driver transistor for the relay and the transistor Q1 amplifies the signal picked up by the condenser mic.

Thus any bulb or bell or buzzer or any electronic gadgets connected to the relay can be turned ON just by a clap and or the next clap it can be turned OFF.

Clap switch circuit dia

This circuit employs some very simple and cheap circuitry, and a simple program. It is relatively easy to make a hardware only clap on/off circuit,

Things you will need :

Materials required

2.Clap switch with IC1 NE 555 & IC2 CD4017

As the above project is highly depends on resistance to operate so there might be some problem with stability which is negligible but still if you need a highly Bi stable clap switch then here is another circuit diagram for you.

Here we use two integrated circuits to make a bistable switch.

There is another circuit diagram for a more advanced clap switch along with relays connected through it.

clap switch with ICs

How it Works :

Along with some of the other components, this circuit is mainly based on the two ICs i.e. NE555 timer along with CD4017.

IC NE555 timer in this circuit is wired like a monostable oscillator. For this circuit, IC NE555 monostable produces a clock pulse, which is used to give an oscillating wave at IC1 pin 3 which is an output pin. Monostable contains only one steady state and all we need is to trigger it externally to return it in reverse direction to its original state. So, utimately this IC is working as switch which forwards an electronic pulse signal to second IC i.e. IC CD4017

And consequently the CD4017 which is a CMOS counter/divider IC, it receives a clock signal through the clock input and in the sequential manner it turns ON all the 10 outputs, every time it gets the clock input pulse.

In order to get familiar with the working of the IC, it is essential for the one to get familiar with the every pin of the IC. These IC consist of 3 input pins along with 10 output pins also have one pin for ground and one more for the power supply and one more pin for the Carry out. Pin diagram of the IC is designed below –

IC 4017

  • ·         Input Pin: This is the pin where the electronic pulse forwarded by IC NE555 enters.

  • ·         Reset Pin (Pin 15) – The counter is reset to the zero position by this pin. Suppose you wish that the counter will only count till third position then you need linked the fourth pin with 15 pin. So after reaching to the third output it will automatically begin its counting from zero.

  • ·         Clock Pin (Pin14) – In each of the timing pin 14 moves at high the output will be given to you. From the initial clock pulse output will be received at the pin 3 likewise for the next clock pulse output will be received at the pin 2 and so on.

  • ·         Clock Inhibit Pin (Pin 13) – The counter is switched to “on” and “off”  by this pin. If you need that the counter to be switched off then for that pin 13 must be at high state. If the pin is at high then it will disregard the clock pulse without paying attention that how much time you press the switch i.e. the count will not go forward. Pin 13 in our circuit is grounded.

  • ·         Output Pin (Pin Q0- Q9) -It is used to get the input in chronological order. Like pin 3  will give you the output for the first pulse and so on.

  • ·         Ground Pin (Pin 8) and Supply pin (pin 16) – For the proper working of these IC these pins are used to give ground as well as power supply.

  • ·         Carry out Pin (Pin 12) – These pins are used to link one or more CD4017 IC with each other. Suppose    you have a desire to connect one more CD4017 IC then attach pin 12 to the clock input to its next one. The carry pin of first CD4017 is connected to clock input of the second and the carry pin of the second is connected to the clock input of the third and so on. In our circuit we left this pin as we have desire of only one IC in our circuit.                                                                                                                                                                                              In both cases you almost needs the same things except the IC NE 555 & IC CD4017

Good luck guys :)

And hope you guys enjoy .
